Chocolate is a sweet food made from the cocoa bean. It is fermented, roasted, ground to form a paste of chocolate liquor which is extracted fat called cocoa butter. Chocolate is made from a mixture, in varying proportions, cocoa liquor, cocoa butter and sugar are added optionally spices, like vanilla.
Originally consumed as a spicy drink in Central America, xocoatl, it becomes more democratic with the industrial revolution. In the twenty-first century, it is consumed as solid (dark chocolate or milk) or liquid (hot chocolate). The chocolate is found in many desserts such as confectionery, biscuits, cakes, ice cream, pies. Offer chocolate molded in different ways, has become a tradition in some festivities: eggs, bunnies and bells on Easter, coins for Hanukkah and Christmas, and hearts for Valentine's Day.
The effects of chocolate on health are unclear. It is popular with gourmets and published showing a beneficial effect by promoting sales, yet many studies on this subject remain largely inconclusive. Some people equate chocolate with a drug, then called the addiction (not proven) the chocoholisme.
